Paro Tsechu is one of the most popular festivals in Bhutan. It is held on the 11th to 15th day of 2nd Lunar month of Bhutanese calendar. It takes place in Paro, in the courtyard which is outside the dzong but the first day of Tsechu is done inside the courtyard of the dzong.
The main attraction of this festival is the mask dance. The best way to learn about Bhutanese customs and culture is through Paro Tsechu. The festival is done in honor of Guru Rimpoche, the saint who introduced Buddhism in Bhutan. The unique thing about Paro Tsechu is the unfurling the Silk Thangka on the final day. The thangka is so large that it covers the face of an entire building and is considered one of the most sacred blessings in whole of Bhutan. People across the country get excited for Paro Tsechu and people celebrate it as one of the important event.
