Punakha Drubchen takes place in Punakha on 7th to 9th day of 1st Lunar month of Bhutanese calendar. The festival of Punakha Drubchen was started to commemorate the heroic victory of the Bhutanese over the invading Tibetan armies. So, in Punakha Drubchen the battle scenes are re-enacted by local militia men known as pazaps dressed in the battle costumes of those times. The Punakha Drubchen is a beautiful and vibrant festival that is deeply rooted in Bhutanese tradition. People from different walks of life gather together to celebrate Punakha Drubchen in the memory of victory.
