The annual Black Necked Crane Festival is a one-day event celebrated at Gangtey Gonpa, Gangteng-Phobji Valley under Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag on 11th November. Phobji valley is the largest winter habitat of Black Necked Crane so the festival is an occasion for the local people to rejoice and celebrate the arrival of Black Necked Cranes, revered as the heavenly birds. This festival includes cultural programs such as folk songs, environment related songs and mask dances performed by monks, local people and the school children. The highlight of the festival is the locally choreographed crane dance performed by school children. This festival is done to preserve our culture. Many people from other parts of the country come to witness the unique Black Necked Crane Festival.
